An award is something given to a person in recognition of his excellence in a certain field. Teaching Excellence Awards 2018 (TEA - 2018) was an effort of MT Research and Educational Services (MTRES) in association with Buzzingg and Indian Achievers Story to recognition the best teachers (Nation Builders) for their special contribution in respective domain. Meet one of the awardees, Dr. K. Thangaraj, who has been honoured with TEA-2018 as Promising Teacher.

Currently working as a Sr. Grade Assistant Professor cum Researcher in the Department of Information Technology, Sona College of Technology, Dr. Thangaraj completed bachelor’s degree from Madras University in Computer Science in 2006, and master’s and Ph.D. from Anna University in Computer Science and Engineering. Dr. Thangaraj has more than 14 years of experience in teaching and research field. His current research focus is in the Design and Development of Energy Efficient Wireless Protocols, and other research interests include Cloud Computing and Internet of Things. His areas of Specialization include Web Technology and Wireless Sensor Networks. He has received numerous awards throughout his career so far.
Dr. Thangaraj has attended an internship in IIT Kanpur and was involved in the study of LEACH and LEACH-C Protocols. Besides this, his research includes the Design of New Energy Efficient L4 Leach Protocol based Visual Sensor Network for Forest Monitoring System. He is member of professional societies like IEI, IAENG and MTRES. He is currently the Computer Engineering Committee Member for IEI Salem Local Centre. His professional achievements involve many awards which include, “Best IT Student Chapter Faculty Advisor Award, 2017” from IEI Tamil Nadu. He has been nominated by the Institution of Engineers as an Expert member for Computer Science and Engineering for IEI NBA inspection at Shayadri Institute of Technology, Mangalore. He has received the “Best Student Chapter Award for the year 2016” from IEI Salem Local Center as a Faculty Advisor for the IT Department IEI Students Chapter. He has worked on the successful demonstration of the ‘Valet Parking Robot’ during the E-Yantra Robotics Teacher Competition, 2014, and has received high praise for the same from IIT Bombay E-Yantra Team. He has been awarded the “Best Paper Award” for the paper ‘Defeating DOS Attacks in Wireless Sensor Network’ at the National Conference held at the Kings College of Engineering, Pudukkottai in 2008 in association with ISTE.
Besides professional degrees, Dr. Thangaraj hold Certification for various other minor courses including, IBM’s RAD Certification Course (2011), IBM Certified ‘Solution Designer Rational Functional Tester for Java’ in (2012) and IIT’s NPTEL Course on ‘Introduction to Internet of Things and Introduction to Programming and Data Structures’.
Dr. Thangaraj has taught numerous courses which include, Fundamentals of Computing, Design and Analysis of Algorithm, Java Programming, Computer Networks, Object Oriented Programming using C++, and Enterprise Computing to name a few. He has guided more than 25 real time projects of Engineering, MCA, MBA and Diploma Students. He has participated in the Faculty Enablement Program for ‘Industry Elective on “User Interface Technologies” held at the Acharya Institute of Technology Bangalore from January - February 2018 conducted by Infosys Limited and many others. He is an active member of ISTE, IEI and IAENG, and is the resource person for programs like ‘MANET’ (AICTE Sponsored), ‘Cloud open source tools and research issues’ (AICTE Sponsored) to name a few.
