When a country excels in Science, it excels in every field, and it is our responsibility to acknowledge the people who bring us such honour. It is for this reason that Dr. Dhiraj Sud, a Professor in the Department of Chemistry in Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (Deemed to be University ), Longowal, received 2nd MTRES Research Excellence Award. Dr. Sud has been actively involved in teaching and research for more than 27 years. Her core area of research involves the coordination chemistry / environmental chemistry/ nanochemistry and she specializes in heterogenous photocatalysis and adsorption technology for waste water treatment. She has contributed to the development of the academic atmosphere at departmental and institutional level at SLIET and has been disseminating knowledge to other organization through invited talks and expert lectures.
Dr. Sud attained graduation degree from Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana and passed B.Sc (Medical) from Punjab University. She stood first in college and was in the merit list of Punjab University. She completed post-graduation in 1987 and received Ph.D in 1991 in Inorganic Chemistry from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. She completed M.Sc in Ecology and Environment from Indian Institute of Ecology and Environment in 1997. She joined Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) in 1991 as a lecturer. The former Dean Academics of SLIET started working as an assistant professor in 2000 and has been working as a professor since 2008.

She has been acclaimed many times in the past for her work. She received the Green Education Award in 11th World Science Congress. During Ph.D, she received the University Merit Scholarship and qualified JPT of Punjab Govt for Lectureship and “National Entrance Test” conducted by the Govt. of India and was awarded Junior Research Fellowship by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, India. She was awarded the International Man of the Year 1997 by International Biographical Centre Cambridge and was included in the Marques’ Who is Who in the World. She has served as the reviewer for more than 25 international journals. She has handled many R&D projects and has a total of 91 publications in conference proceedings, national and international journals of repute such as Elsevier, Springer, Taylor - Francis and others with citation index of 4207 and h-index of 27 to her credit.
She has contributed over 125 papers in conferences, of which 14 research papers/presentations were adjudged as Best Research Papers at various national and international conferences. She is the author of 3 books. She has guided 10 Ph.D and 20 post graduate research students. She has visited various countries such as UK, USA, and Switzerland for oral presentations. She also handled the Community Development Project of MHRD as project officer under which a number of vocational courses were run in different villages of district Sangrur for the upliftment and provision of skills to rural youth. If every person follows the example set by the accomplished, humanitarian, and extremely resourceful Dr. Dhiraj Sud, then no one can stop us from achieving great heights.
